Presidential Debate

Truly Presidential elections in the United States of America are a choice of the lesser of two evils.

I watched the debate and one thing stands out to me, glaringly, concerning BOTH candidates. Party rhetoric. I really did not hear anything new and that is what scares me the most. While Obama consistently chants change, his plans all center around more spending. McCain’s are about Govenment being out of control and the need to curtail spending. His plans talk about tax credits but that in itself brings up more questions about spending, where the monies are coming from to continue current, needed, spending etc…

You can not spend more without taxation and you cant stop current spending levels without killing Pork barrel spending, earmarks and Lobbyist influence i.e. corruption. Washington is so fouled up no President can fix it. It MUST start with us, the American people electing down to earth honest people that have standards, ethics and the guts to stay honest and call out those that arent. When they screw the pooch, boot their asses out of office. Seems simple huh ?

sigh… as Laurel would say, “This is another fine mess you’ve gotten us into Ollie” …

Presidential Debate

I watched the Presidential Debate tonight and thought I would put down some of my thoughts. First of all, I’m neither a Democrat or Republican. I vote on issues and policies. Let’s start with Obama. I think tonight Obama portrayed a little bit of insecurity. He is a very good speaker, but I think he should stick with the teleprompters. On the first issue, the government bailout package, I think both candidates realize this package is going to take both parties dismissing their differences to accomplish this in a timely manner. Next, Obama was asked what effects would this package have on his spending goals if elected. He never came out and said anything definite until pressured. He then eluded that his plans were some long term goals that might have to be posponed a little. The next good portion of the debate was dedicated to war, Iraq, Afganistan, and such. I don’t think Obama has a full grasp on the complexity of the situation. Obama wants to set a drop-dead date on when we pull out of the region. Big mistake. McCain and the military leaders understand that it’s a situational withdrawl. There should be stages or a checklist followed to determine the pullout. Just think what would happen to our country’s morale if we pulled out of the region with a job unfinished, just to have to return again. Then there’s Russia, Pakistan, and others. I think it would only be foolish of him to have sitdowns with some of the “supposed leaders.” These people are are looking to gain power and just having a sit down with them does that. It means you acknowledge their existance. The impression I get from Obama is that he almost want to turn our country towards Socialism and make sure the government has a hand in everything. He wants to restructure the tax system and make it more socialistic. He wants the government to handle healthcare. Sounds like socialism to me.

I understand where McCain is coming from when Obama accuses him of giving tax breaks to big companies that shift work overseas. Large corporations are taxed heavily in the US. McCain wants to give them tax breaks so they will keep there business here, creating thousands of jobs and spreading the wealth in our country. -Simple John Adams philosophy. The other warm fuzzie I have with McCain is experience. He’s been a part of our government for a long time. He has seen and had a lot to deal with in those 26 year. I think that also says a lot because he isn’t one of the most liked in the Senate. They call him the sheriff since he is quick to raise a red flag when something isn’t right. I also like his idea of getting rid of all the needless spending in our government. The government has always thrown around loose dollars, but it’s our dollars. I used to chucke at inventory reports from the government showing prices of goods we had. $20 dollars for a role of single ply toilet paper was always a good one.

I was undecided, until tonight, on who I was going to vote for. Now I believe McCain has my vote.
